കുരാക്കാരൻ വലിയവീട് (Kurakaran Valiyaveettil Family) എന്നത് കുറവിലങ്ങാടുള്ള ശങ്കുരിക്കൽ വലിയവീടിന്റെ (Shankurickal Valiyaveettil) ഒരു പ്രധാന ശാഖയാണ്. ഈ ശങ്കുരിക്കൽ വലിയവീട് എന്നത് ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധമായ ശങ്കരപുരി (Sankarapuri) കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ശാഖയാണ്. [1]

വിശുദ്ധ തോമാശ്ലീഹാ വഴി ക്രിസ്തുമതം സ്വീകരിച്ചു എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ആദ്യകാല ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ശങ്കരപുരി. ആ നിലയ്ക്ക്, ശങ്കരപുരി മഹാകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ നേരിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു കുടുംബശാഖയോ പാരമ്പര്യമോ ആണ് കുരാക്കാരൻ വലിയ വീട്

The Sankarapuri family is one of the ancient St. Thomas Christian families of Kerala, and the Kurakaran family is a direct offshoot that migrated from Kuravilangad to Kottarakara.

The Sankarapuri Family Roots

·        Origin: Tradition states the Sankarapuri family is descended from one of four Namboothiri (Brahmin) families baptized by St. Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century AD.

·        Kuravilangad Settlement: Early members moved to Kuravilangad, helping build the historic Marthamariam Forane Church.

·        Branches: Over centuries, the family expanded across Kerala into various branches like Thekkedathu, Pattarumadam, and Shankurickal Valiyaveedu. The global association coordinates worldwide community gatherings.

Connection to the Kurakaran Family

·        The Founder: In 1705, Mr. Mathen from the Kuravilangad Shankurickal Valiyaveedu (a Sankarapuri branch) traveled to Kottarakara.

·        Royal Recognition: The King of Kottarakara appointed Mathen as a palace manager, granting him agricultural lands.

·        The Name: The king honored him with the title "Kariyakaran" (Manager), which evolved into the family name Kurakaran. Mathen built a home named Valiyaveedu at Kizhakketheruvu, Kottarakara, mirroring their ancestral home in Kuravilangad.

·        Family Association: The Kurakaran Valiyaveettil Kudumbayogam was formally registered in 1969 to unite descendants.
